The Hungarian tenor, János Bándi, graduated from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1981 and during his years of study he performed at the Hungarian State Opera House where he has been appearing to date with huge success. In 1983 he was awarded the first prize at the Singing Competition of the Belgian Radio and Television.

János Bándi's voice is of wide range and rich of timbers. His musicality and splendid technique make his repertoire very rich from Georg Frideric Handel's Messiah full of coloratura to the dramatic Otello. At the beginning of his career, he sang almost lyrical roles: Mozart: Die Zauberflöte - Tamino, Cosi fan tutte - Ferrando, Don Giovanni - Don Ottavio, Die Entführung aus dem Serail - Belmonte, Rossini: La Cenerentola - Ramiro, The Barber of Sevilla - Almaviva, Massenet: Werther, Verdi: Traviata - Alfredo, Falstaff - Fenton, Rigoletto - Prince of Mantua, Donizetti: Don Pasquale - Ernesto, Tchaikovski: Onegin - Lenski. There are several TV- and radio recordings which were made of these appearances.

He sang an opera rarity at the Wexford Festival in Ireland (Mercadante: Elisa e Claudio - Claudio) where he was the favourite of the Festival audience. During recent years he has performed in almost every European country, in Asia, in Australian. He toured in Italy, Germany with Manon Lescaut (Des Grieux) where he had very good press. He was principal guest singer of the Prague Staatsoper.

He is presently appering mostly in romantic roles, i. e. Des Grieux, Kalaf, Roberto (Puccini - Le Villi) and Verdi operas: Prince of Mantua, Alfredo, Manrico, Otello, Radames, Riccardo, Canio (Leoncavallo - Pagliacci), Erik (The Flying Dutchman), Herman (Tchaikovski - The Queen of Spades). In season 2000-2001 he sang with huge success the role of Herman in opera The Queen of Spades (Pique Dame) of Tchaikovski in Wiesbaden and in Copenhagen, where he had very good press.

He regularly performs in oratorios in Hungary and abroad: Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 8 in Prague, Sophia, Barcelone; F. Liszt: Cantate No. I in Bonn; G.F. Handel: Messiah in Solthum (Switzerland); Verdi: Requiem in Dortmund, Unna, Schwertl; Dvorak: Stabat Mater in Braunschweig; Beethoven: IX. Symphony - in Linz, in Canada.
