Martin Klietmann

Born: 1944 - Bad Vöslau, Austria

The Austrian tenor, Martin Klietmann, studied German and English at the University of Graz. He studied singing with Thöny Herbert, Hilde Rössel-Majdan, Artemis Gabor, Ira Malaniuk and Kurt Equiluz in Graz and Vienna.

In 1967 Martin Klietmann began a successful activity as a concert and oratorio singer, who would soon assumed international dimensions. He has proven himself as a particularly outstanding Evangelist in the Passions of J.S. Bach and as an artist of Baroque music. In 1968 he received prize at the International Competition for oratorio soloists in Graz. He has appeared as a Bach singer in the major European music centres including, together with the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Bach concerts in Frankfurt a.M., in Lausanne and at the Münchner Bach-Wochen. In 1983, he undertook together with the Wiener Sängerknaben an extensive USA and Canada tour. His concert repertoire has a wide scope and includes mostly concerts, but also opera. For example, in 1988 he worked at the Monte Carlo Opera with performances of Cimarosa's Il Pittore Parigino.

Since 1969 Martin Klietmann teaches at the Musikhochschule von Graz; since 1975 he held a professorship there; and since 1985 ordinary university professor.
